What this is for
Gear oil lives under extreme pressure at a very small contact patch, so it is built around anti-wear chemistry rather than detergency. Towing heat is what kills it — a differential that has been run hot loses its film strength long before the fluid looks bad on the dipstick.
Check this before you order
Check the viscosity and whether your differential has a limited-slip clutch pack, which usually needs a friction modifier added or already blended in.
